THERE ARE TWO MAIN APPROACHES TO PD.

Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) involves manual exchanges performed throughout the day, typically four to six times. This method allows for considerable mobility and can be easily integrated into daily routines.

Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) on the other hand, utilizes a machine to perform exchanges automatically overnight, leaving days free for normal activities.

The benefits of PD extend beyond convenience. This method often better preserves residual kidney function and provides more stable blood chemistry due to its continuous nature. It also eliminates the need for vascular access and regular needle insertion, making it an attractive option for many patients.

Home Hemodialysis (HHD)

Currently, at Dialyze Direct we only perform home hemodialysis, either in the patient’s skilled nursing facility or rehab center or within the patient’s own home. Hemodialysis brings the power of traditional dialysis into the comfort of home. This method involves using a specialized machine to filter blood outside the body, removing waste products and excess fluid. The key difference from in-center treatment lies in the flexibility of scheduling and the potential for more frequent treatments *.

The flexibility of HHD scheduling allows for various treatment approaches. Short daily treatments, typically lasting two to three hours, can be performed five to six times per week. * This adaptability allows patients to choose a schedule that best fits their lifestyle while potentially achieving better health results than traditional in-center treatment.
